International Booker Prize Longlist 2025
As part of my goal to read more translated fiction this year I told myself that I was going to aim to read the International Booker Prize longlist, which was announced earlier today. Before the titles were released I had a strong suspicion that we'd see Solvej Balle's On The Calculation of Volume I on the list, purely because I've heard a lot about it over the past few months. I also hoped that Vincenzo Latronico's Perfection would be on the list, because I really loved it. And it seems I was right on both counts.
Here's the full longlist:
- A Leopard-Skin Hat - Anne Serre, translated from French by Mark Hutchinson
- On a Woman's Madness - Astrid Roemer, translated from Dutch by Lucy Scott
- Heart Lamp - Banu Mushtaq, translated from Kannadu by Deepa Bhasthi
- Perfection - Vincenzo Latronico, translated from Italian by Sophie Hughes
- Eurotrash - Christian Kracht, translated from German by Daniel Bowles
- Under the Eye of the Big Bird - Hiromi Kawakami, translated from Japanese by Asa Yoneda
- Hunchback - Saou Ichikawa, translated from Japanese by Polly Barton
- Small Boat - Vincent Delecroix, translated from French by Helen Stevenson
- Reservoir Bitches - Dahlia de la Cerda, translated from Spanish by Julia Sanches and Heather Cleary
- Solenoid - Mircea Cărtărescu, translated from Romanian by Sean Cotter
- There's a Monster Behind the Door - Gaëlle Bélem, translated from French by Karen Fleetwood and Laëtitia Saint-Loubert
- On the Calculation of Volume I - Solvej Balle, translated from Danish by Barbara J. Haveland
- The Book of Disappearance - Ibtisam Azem, translated from Arabic by Sinan Antoon
Of all of these books I think the ones that appeal to me the most are Under The Eye Of The Big Bird, Small Boat, and The Book of Disappearance, but I'm looking forward to reading them all and hopefully will manage to get through them before the award is presented in May.
